16th-20th September 2015
The line-up has been announced for the fourth Guernsey Literary Festival, which will take place from 16th-20th September 2015. The line- up includes author and journalist, Will Self; children's book illustrator, Korky Paul and Mrs Hemingway author, Naomi Wood. Over the four days there will be talks and workshops by authors, poetry masterclasses, story writing sessions and themed dinners. The full schedule will be listed at: www.guernseyliteraryfestival.com
Over the past three years, the festival has drawn in some of the top literary names across the globe including Louis des Bernières (Captain Corelli's Mandolin), Michael Morpurgo (War Horse), Marina Lewycka (A Short History of Tractors in Ukranian), Annie Barrows (The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society) and even Charles Dickens' great-great-great-granddaughter. This fourth literary festival aims to build on the excellent success and reputation of the first three.
Current line up highlights include:
Will Self- author and journalist who was shortlisted for the Man Booker prize in 2012. Self also makes regular TV appearances on Newsnight and Question Time. His satirical fiction is often grotesque and fantastical and his latest novel, Shark, is written as a single paragraph with no chapter breaks.
Korky Paul- illustrator of children's books, including the much-loved Winnie the Witch series. His illustrations, executed with bright watercolours and pen and ink, are full of visual jokes and witty details.
Naomi Wood- author of 2014 novel, Mrs Hemingway, which is told from the perspective of each of Ernest Hemingway's four wives. Wood's extensive research for her creative interpretation of Hemingway's life took her all around the world and she gained a deep insight into this enigmatic and troubled writer and the women he loved, married and deceived.
AL Kennedy- prolific Scottish writer of novels and short stories and also a stand-up comedian. Kennedy is in the process of writing a new Doctor Who novel, following on from the success of her 2013 book, Doctor Who: The Death Pit.
Oggy Boytchev- British journalist and producer with more than 20 years experience at BBC London. Oggy was producer for BBC world affairs editor John Simpson, which inspired his book Simpson & I: Between Two Worlds.
