Liguria Celebrates The Sixth Slow Fish Festival- 9th -12th May

Turismo In Liguria

For the sixth year running the internationally renowned Slow Fish Festival will take place in Genoa, the capital of Liguria in North West Italy. Created by the international food movement Slow Food (www.slowfood.org.uk) and Regione Liguria and collaborating with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry the festival will run from 9th – 12th May.

The festival showcases the produce of the region and beyond, traditional fishing methods and sustainable fishing cultures for Europe and the world – all combined with lots of opportunity to sample and purchase fish based delicacies and divine street food!

Practical tips such as how to choose the freshest fish at the market and how to fillet correctly sit alongside famous Chefs rustling up exquisite fish based dishes from live show cooking theatres.

For those that have been inspired the food market is the perfect spot to pick up fresh and preserved fish, aromatic olive oil – a specialty of the region, spices, salt and other local delicacies.

This year the show cooking theatre ‘Fish & Chef’ will feature a 25 seat auditorium overlooking an open kitchen where 16 of the biggest names in Italian and international food including Moreno Cedroni, Luca Collami and Peppino Tinari from Italy and Angel Léon from Spain and Sasu Laukonnen dalla Finland will cook their own favourite fish dishes for a live audience.

With the health of the world’s seas and rivers critical to fish and fish supplies there will of course be a strong focus on water and water conservation as part of the festival and Water Workshops will provide entertaining but educational insight into the international issues of water shortages and water pollution in developing parts of the world.

For those whose appetites have been whetted by the tempting aromas and smells the Street Kitchen Food will provide value for money and fresh food specialising in regional flavours.

The Bistro Alliance, will be a dedicated area for festival go-ers to enjoy dishes of local and seasonal fish in slightly more formal surroundings – all cooked by international chefs committed to protecting biodiversity and fish stocks.
