Basecamp Nordenskiöld, the northernmost cabin on Svalbard 19 Jun 2014
Let The Arctic Experts At Basecamp Explorer Take You On A Journey To The Edge Of The World Far From Civilisation

Basecamp Explorer

Experience the true beauty of the Arctic when you combine an arctic adventure with a unique stay at Basecamp Nordenskiöld. Basecamp Nordenskiöld is the northernmost cabin on Svalbard and situated in Billefjorden, beside the mighty glacier Nordenskiöld.

The Nordenskiöld cabin is a genuine expedition lodge and is ideal for longer wilderness expeditions for those who enjoy an icy adventure. During winter Basecamp Nordenskiöld makes the perfect base for ski expeditions and arctic adventures. With no electricity, Nordenskiöld is a hunting cabin used by the island's original trappers, but with modern comforts. Wood is used to heat up the cabin and drinking water is sourced from the melting glacier. There are five bedrooms with panoramic arctic views, and a separate cabin with a traditional sauna. Nestled in the glacier moraine the cabin is well hidden. Breakfast is served looking over the magnificent glacier and the sun terrace is the perfect vantage point from which to watch polar bears hunt for seals on the sea ice.

Svalbard is often described as being on the edge of the earth, far from civilisation and is the last habited place before the North Pole. It is the perfect place to witness polar bears roaming on the glaciers and Basecamp Explorer has teamed up with Magnetic North Travel to offer an exciting 7 day Arctic Adventure. After the long winter and dark polar nights, the midnight sun returns bringing light back to the islands between April and August - longer than any other habited place in the Arctic Circle. The natural world in Svalbard comes alive once again during this period and many locations become accessible after being covered by snow and ice.

Guests will enjoy an arctic expedition including glacier exploration, kayaking to the glacier front for wildlife spotting and mountain hiking. Guests will stay in Trappers Lodge hotel and Nordenskiöld Cabin – a genuine hunter's cabin nestled in the arctic. This expedition offers the chance to visit the wilderness areas away from Longyearbyen and experience this unique part of the world under the Midnight Sun. Explore the road untraveled with specialised local guides and stay in a cabin by a glacier and mountain peaks experienced by a few.

Magnetic  North Travel is offering the 7 day Kingdom of Polar Bears Summer Expedition in Svalbard from £2395 per person based on two people sharing a room, available throughout July and August 2014. The price includes: return flights from London, boat transfer to and from Nordenskiöld, accommodation in double rooms, meals during the Adventure week (Monday - Friday), accommodation at Trapper's Lodge or similar for two nights sharing double/twin room including breakfast.
