Get ready for LEGOLAND Californias fifth birthday! On Mar. 20, 2004, the 128-acre theme park in northern San Diego County celebrates with a day of fun and festive birthday activities, not to mention great deals. In addition to the more than 50 rides, shows and attractions, thousands of guests will be treated to additional entertainment in the park and birthday discounts on food and retail purchases. Everyone in attendance that day will receive a limited edition commemorative LEGO brick and have a chance to become a part of history by signing a giant birthday card to a park that brings the famous LEGO brick to life.
In just five short years, LEGOLAND California has entertained more than seven million guests since its grand opening in March of 1999. The park has added five new attractions and one restaurant in the last four years. There have been more than six and a half acres of new capital added since 1999 which represents an investment of more than $15 million.
Operationally in 2003, the family park had a record 98 percent guest satisfaction rating, according to guest exit surveys. This is an amazing statement and something park management is extremely proud of, President and General Manager John Jakobsen said. Not too many companies can say that nearly 100 percent of their customers left happy.
In honor of the parks fifth birthday, there will be five new attractions added in 2004. In the classic LEGOLAND style of blending education and entertainment, the new attractions combine history, classic art, paleontology, fire safety, and geography with interactive fun. Geared towards families with youngsters ages two through 12, the new attractions feature something for everyone in the family. There will be a new area to the famed Miniland USA, a roller coaster, a sand excavation attraction and an interactive firefighter racing ride.
The development represents our largest capital investment since LEGOLAND opened in 1999, said Jakobsen. Its a five-million dollar investment in expanding our business, and were confident well continue to build the momentum and the loyal customer base weve been growing for five successful years.
LEGOLAND California has received a number of prestigious awards since it first opened. The park has been named Best theme park in the world by Forbes.com two years in a row. The popular travel feature showcases the finest amusement parks around the globe and LEGOLAND was honored for innovative and interactive rides and its wide range of shows and attractions for the whole family. This latest recognition adds to LEGOLAND Californias impressive list of honors including the recent poll conducted by www.ThemeParkInsider.com in which the readers ranked the Carlsbad theme park the Best Theme Park for Kids.
The birthday bash on March 20 is just one of the many celebrations that will take place throughout the year. For more information about the park or any of its new attractions, call 760-918-LEGO or log on to www.LEGOLAND.com.
