Today, Leading Culture Destinations Awards, coined by the press as “The Oscars for Museums”, announced nominations for its fifth edition, shining a light on the most impactful cultural destinations all over the globe. The LCD Awards celebrates the most exceptional contributions to cultural life that these institutions have to offer–showcasing some of the world's best emerging destinations and the experiential shift for them to become places to dine, shop, work and even sleep!
This year, the 2018 Leading Culture Destinations Awards will have five sections and a new category:
• The Leading Culture Destinations of the Year (non-profit organizations): Exhibition, Architecture, Restaurant, Shop, Digital Experience and Leading Culture Destination of the Year.
• New Culture Destinations of the Year (last 24 months, non-profit organizations), dedicated to young museums and institutions with five regional categories: Europe, North America, Latin America, Africa/Middle East / UAE, Asia Pacific
• Soft Power Destinations of the Year, recognising the cultural organisation, activation, and district that have powerful influence and impact based on their excellence, relevance, transparency, accountability and sustainability
• The 'Climate Smart' Award recognising cultural institutions or programming that has made a significant educational contribution on a key challenge of the future: climate change.
• The Avis Travellers' Awards: Emerging Culture City of the Year, Cultural Nomad of the Year and Art Hotel of the Year
• The Experiential Destinations Awards, which has five categories: Best LGBT Destination, Best Festival Destination, Best Food Destination, Best Smart Tech Destination, Best Luxury Destination and Leading Experiential Destination of the Year.
Once the shortlist is refined to three institutions per category, the Jury will cast the final votes to declare the winners at an award ceremony on Friday 28th September 2018 at the South Kensington Club in London.
Florian Wupperfeld, Co-founder of Leading Culture Destinations, commented: “We are delighted to announce the nominees for the fifth edition of the Leading Culture Destinations Awards, and are particularly excited to introduce the Experiential Destinations Awards for the first time this year. Cultural tourism is an incredibly valuable sector, which in London alone accounts for 80 per cent of visitors and £3.2 billion in revenue each year. I believe that the next generation of cultural nomads want to re-localise through culture after being globalised through brands.
