Lauren Cotton Transforms Gallery Space Through Color and Shape at the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts through September 21, 2008

Brandywine Museums and Gardens Alliance

Wilmington, DE- The Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts presents WAVEFRONTS by Lauren Cotton through September 21, 2008. Cotton has applied adhesive-backed vinyl and interior latex paint to the walls and floor in the Constance S. And Robert J. Hennessy Project Space, creating a three-dimensional space from two-dimensional components.

Lauren Cotton considers place and architectural space to be the defining factors in her sculpture and installations. With each new environment, says Cotton, my works form, color, and composition alter and expose the locations architectural framework as being an additive of both physiological and psychological possibilities.

Cotton creates new spatial arrangements with vibrant applications of geometric color forms and as a result, the color in her work allows the two-dimensional components to transcend any flatness and become angular and full, reflecting the gallery framework. By using color, optically hypnotic and inherently fluid, to evoke dimension, color becomes a physical element that builds on the space and materials.

Lauren Cotton (Fairfield, CT) holds an MFA from Tempe Universitys Tyler School of Art and a BFA from Moore College of Art and Design. She is currently an Adjunct Profession of Interior Design and Architecture at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Online Division. Cotton is also lead designer and owner of The Cotton Press in Fairfield, CT.
