Those looking for an autumn challenge can join the last few spaces on trekking challenges from Global Adventure Challenges, including a Ben Nevis trek in October and a five day Himalayan trek in November.
Ben Nevis Trek- 3rd-5th October
The challenge takes participants into the heart of the stunning Scottish Highlands to conquer the highest peak in Britain at 1,343m above sea level. The exciting trek takes a full day with a four hour ascent and a three hour descent including a picnic lunch at the peak and time to admire the stunning panoramic views across the highlands. The trekking distance to the peak is approximately ten miles (16km) but the terrain is tough and should only be joined by those with a good level of fitness.
The £305 cost includes accommodation in local bunk houses, all meals, a qualified Global Adventure Challenges leader, vehicles for back up and support, medical support and transfers to and from Glasgow. Charity spaces are also available with a registration fee of £65 and minimum sponsorship of £480. The group are to meet at Glasgow Central Train Station/Glasgow International Airport on 3rd October for a transfer to Fort William. Here there will be an evening meal and briefing before the trek the next day. After the trek on 4th October there will be a celebratory dinner and drinks followed by a transfer back to Glasgow on 5th October.

Dalai Lama trek – 31st October- 10th November- ONLY THREE SPACES LEFT
The 67km, five day trek takes participants through one of the most fascinating parts of north India in the foothills of the Himalayas. The route travels past Dharamsala, where the Dalai Lama is in residence; through the Kingdom of Gaddi, homeland to a semi nomadic race who wander the high passes with their cattle; past rural Hindu settlements and Buddhist monasteries and onto a glacier to see the Lahes Cave, an overnight shelter used by shepherds travelling over the mountains with their sheep. The walk reaches an altitude of 3,500m meaning that there are spectacular views of the snow-capped mountains throughout. On either side of the trek there is time to explore Delhi, see the Taj Mahal and visit local markets.
The trek costs £1,549 per person including return flights from London to Delhi, train tickets, all accommodation, transfers, tents and camping equipment, most meals including celebratory dinner, porters/ponies to carry luggage, cooks, food, water and other supplies, local English speaking guide and a Global Adventure Challenges leader from the UK. A good level of fitness is needed as there are eight hours of trekking per day. Charity places are available for a registration fee of £299 and a minimum sponsorship of £2,500.
