Last Chance to See Pistoletto Exhibition at Blenheim Palace
Enjoy a day full of culture and heritage spanning the centuries at Blenheim Palace. Visitors have the last chance to see the UK's most comprehensive exhibition ever showcasing the works of Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto at Blenheim Palace. Until 31 December, 2016 the Palace, closed only on Christmas Day, is open for visitors to see the diverse range of artworks which are staged inside the State Rooms and within the grounds of the Formal Gardens.
Spanning half a century, the exhibition explores the range of his work; from painting and sculpture to large-scale installation, as well as showcasing new works which were made specifically for Blenheim Palace.
This project is Pistoletto's most extensive to be exhibited in the UK, offering all visitors, from art enthusiasts and experts to families, an opportunity to experience the influential founding father of Italian Art Povera; a radical Italian art movement which explored a range of unconventional processes and non-traditional 'everyday' materials.
Among the most celebrated works featured is the 'Venus of the Rags' – which combines a high art figure of Western classical culture with a pile of discarded cloth.
The exhibition also showcases the artist's ongoing series of Mirror Paintings, photo-silkscreened images on polished steel which project the viewer's reflection into the picture plane.
Heather Carter, Operations Director at Blenheim Palace says: “We are delighted with the response to Michelangelo Pistoletto's vast range of work exhibited within Blenheim Palace and its Formal Gardens. His extensive and powerful career has been a major influence on contemporary art and modern thought.
She continues: “He is a counter-cultural figure who questions society and explores philosophy through a body of work which is witty, poetic and always unexpected. It has been interesting to showcase this within the baroque beauty of Blenheim Palace.”
Visitors can combine their tour of the Pistoletto Exhibition with lunch in The Orangery Restaurant or book to enjoy an afternoon tea for a day full of culture.
