Large Outdoors Launches New Guided Walking Short Breaks For 2015

Large Outdoors

Guided walking specialist Large Outdoors has introduced a number of new short guided walking breaks for 2015.

With the benefits of walking being promoted by researchers* and more people now wanting to don boots and get outside, Large Outdoors has expanded the number of day and weekend options for those keen to join other fellow walkers and enjoy the countryside.

New breaks include:

  • Walking + foraging along Yorkshire's coastline (Friday 17th - Monday 20th April)

A three-night break staying in The Smugglers, a Georgian townhouse in the picturesque coastal village of Staithes. The break combines guided walks along the cliff tops and coastline around Runswick Bay and Whitby, with a day's beachcombing with a local expert and fisherman. Expect to find pieces of the minor gemstone Whitby Jet, and sample seaweed and edible plants before sitting down to a lobster lunch in a fisherman's hut at Port Mulgrave.

Cost: £345 per person – includes three nights' accommodation, all meals and two days' guided walking.

  • Walking + murder mystery event, North York Moors (Friday 12th– Sunday 14th June)

A two-night break combining a weekend of guided walks across the rugged North Yorkshire moors and along tranquil river valleys, with Yorkshire's answer to the 'Murder on the Orient Express'.

After a day's walking on the Saturday, guests jump aboard the North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam train for a 3-course meal in the Pullman coach as a Murder Mystery tale unravels before their eyes and as the train chugs its way across the moors.

Cost: £225 per person – includes two nights' accommodation in the cosy YHA Dalby Forest, qualified guide, all breakfasts and evening meals, and a packed lunch for the Saturday.

  • Walking in the Lake District without the summit bagging (Friday 24th– Sunday 26th July)

A weekend of walks that are perfect for those new to the whole hiking experience. Rather than tackling the high peaks, Large Outdoors has designed routes that enjoy the beauty of the mountains from gentle river valleys, woodland trails and Lakeland shores.

The itinerary includes the ice-breaker curry night on the Friday as guests get to know their fellow walkers, staying in the YHA at Hawse End overlooking Derwentwater near Keswick, and with plenty of down-time to enjoy the views.

Cost: £135 per person – includes two nights' accommodation in the YHA, fully-qualified guide and host, all breakfasts and evening meals, plus a packed lunch for the Saturday.

Large Outdoors is run by qualified guide Gareth Williams, specializing in group guided walks of varying degrees of difficulty from easy strolls through to longer, tougher challenges such as the West Highland Way and walking the peaks and edges of the Lake District.

All breaks are designed to be welcoming for solo guests who are keen to walk in the company of others and who still want to enjoy some luxuries such as good food and time to relax in front of log fires and in cosy lounges.
