Lake Tahoe: A Destination for All Seasons

Aramark Destinations

Travel is a part of the American culture and where and when we travel depends on what we want to see and do, and it is contingent of the seasons or time of year. Many places have a defined travel season, but Lake Tahoe is an all year around destination with plenty of activities at any time of year.

Winter at Lake Tahoe is an especially popular season with visitors from all over the world coming to Tahoe for world-class skiing and other unique winter activities such as the thrill of snowmobiling. Zephyr Cove Resort offers one of the largest fleets of snowmobiles and tours that reach 9,000 feet above sea level and feature over 45 miles of groomed trails. Spectacular views and the adrenaline surging speed of a snowmobile are the ideal way to see Lake Tahoe in winter. The 2-hour, scenic guided Lakeview Tour that leaves Zephyr Cove Resort daily is a must-do. The popular tour offers basic snowmobile operation instruction, 15-18 miles of trail riding, lookout stops and of course a hot chocolate break.

Following winter, spring is a lovely time at Lake Tahoe. The crowds have subsided but you may still catch some remnants of snow. In the later spring months, the wildflowers begin to bloom and hiking, biking and horseback riding become the staples when visiting the area. As it begins to warm up, water sports begin to kick in and the beach becomes a treasure once again.

If a beach and water sports are your idea of a vacation (how can it not be?) then South Lake Tahoe during the summer is the place to be. The sandy, pine-tree covered shores, pristine turquoise water, gentle breezes and endless sunshine on the mile-long private beach at Zephyr Cove Resort make for a carefree and fun-filled getaway. Vacationers can parasail, waterski, wakeboard, jetski and rent a variety of boats to experience the lake in its entirety. Additionally, hiking, biking, fishing and horseback riding round out summer activities. Wildflowers are also abundant during the summer months.

The last of the seasons at Lake Tahoe is fall. Distinct fall colors are abundant, summer crowds taper off, salmon fishing is fruitful and cooler temperatures make hiking and biking the ideal means of getting around. Water sports are still available and the beaches still appealing.

Lake Tahoe Cruises runs cruises all-year-around offering daytime scenic cruises, sunset dinner cruises, charter, and specialty cruises for holidays and special events. The M.S. Dixie II, the largest cruising vessel in South Lake Tahoe accommodating 520-passengers, The Tahoe Queen, an authentic Mississippi River-style paddlewheeler and the 82-foot Tahoe Paradise yacht offer spectacular views of Emerald Bay and all that Lake Tahoe has to offer.
