La Manga Club

Spain's La Manga Club is chasing quadruple glory at the end of this month after receiving four nominations at the 2013 World Travel Awards - the travel industry's equivalent of the Oscars.

The five-star resort has underlined its reputation for excellence as a sports and leisure destination by being nominated in four categories - Europe's Leading Golf Resort, Sports Resort and Villa Resort, and the Leading Golf Resort in Spain - at the World Travel Awards Europe gala ceremony, which will take place at Cornelia Diamond Golf Resort & Spa in Antalya, Turkey, on August 31.

Having celebrated its 40th birthday last year, La Manga Club stands as a bastion of European golf, sports and lifestyle resorts.

As a result of more than four decades of continued investment, innovation and commitment to excellence, the resort is widely recognised as Spain's flagship resort, offering a wide range of first-class sports and leisure facilities including three championship golf courses and a 28-court tennis academy.

Among its most recent accolades, La Manga Club has been voted as the best golf resort in Spain by UK readers of Today's Golfer magazine for the last two years, hosted the 2013 Spanish Amateur International Golf Championship and is the overseas training base of the Lawn Tennis Association until 2016.

The World Travel Awards are acknowledged across the globe as the ultimate travel honour, celebrating those brands that are pushing the boundaries of industry excellence.

More than 500 organisations from across Europe have been nominated for the competition for the most influential accolade in travel, with in excess of 57 countries competing for awards across 76 categories.

Peter Nieuwland, sales and marketing director at La Manga Club, said: "To be nominated in so many categories is proof of the high regard that La Manga Club is held in across Europe.

"It is reward for all the hard work that goes in to making the resort a continued success and we're hoping for a successful night."

La Manga Club boasts unrivalled facilities as a sports and leisure destination including three 18-hole championship golf courses, a 28-court tennis centre and a 2,000sqm spa and fitness centre.
