La Manga Club Spa-rkles With New Global Award

La Manga Club

La Manga Club, a leader among sports and leisure resorts worldwide for more than four decades, has completed an impressive hat-trick of global tourism accolades after being voted 'Spain's Best Resort Spa' at the 2017 World Spa Awards.

The famous resort in Murcia, south-east Spain, was one of five venues to be shortlisted for the top honour at the event – 'the Oscars of the spa industry' – and received the award at a lavish prize-giving ceremony at the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa in Vietnam last weekend.

Covering 2,000sqm, La Manga Club's luxury spa and fitness centre features 13 treatment rooms and has gone from strength-to-strength in 2017 under new director of spa, Raquel Martín. Under Martín's creative leadership, the spa has implemented a number of new services including the introduction of ancient Oriental therapies, using new cosmetic medicine techniques – the only spa in the region to do so – and the opening of a Nails Bar.

José Asenjo, general manager of La Manga Club, said: “La Manga Club prides itself on providing outstanding customer service across all our facilities, and this award is deserved recognition for everyone's hard work at the spa, with Raquel leading the way.

“With our vast array of facilities, there is no other resort in Europe that can match the five-star sports and lifestyle experience that we offer. It's been another outstanding year for La Manga Club across all sectors and the resort is only going to get better in the years ahead.”

The latest award helps to cap a memorable end to the year for La Manga Club with the resort – which recently celebrated its 45th anniversary – having already been named as 'Europe's Leading Luxury Resort & Villas 2017' at the World Travel Awards Europe as well as winning the 'Europe's Best Golf Venue' accolade at last month's annual World Golf Awards.

Launched in 2015, the World Spa Awards is a dynamic awards programme which was created to help improve standards within spa and wellness tourism by rewarding the top industry organisations that are the leaders in the field.

Voted for by leading spa and wellness tourism professionals, as well as hundreds of thousands of spa consumers from across the globe, this year's event was the biggest yet and took place alongside the World Travel Awards Grand Final 2017.

Rebecca Cohen, managing director for the World Spa Awards, said: “This is spa tourism's highest accolade and La Manga Club truly deserves the award for the resort's commitment to excellence and determination to become the undisputed market leader.”

Set across an area of 1,400 acres, La Manga Club has set the benchmark for European sports and leisure destinations since its inception in 1972.

The official overseas training base of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), the resort's extensive other facilities include three 18-hole golf courses, a 28-court tennis centre and a new European Cricket Performance Centre. In addition, it features the choice of a five-star hotel, four-star serviced apartments and townhouses and more than 20 bars and restaurants.
