The five-star La Manga Club is a well-established favourite among families seeking an active sunshine holiday and Spain's flagship resort is targeting further recognition after being nominated for a new family accolade.
The multi award-winning venue has been at the forefront of European sports and leisure destinations for more than four decades and is in line for another top honour after being shortlisted to be named 'Best Short Haul Accommodation for Families' at the 2015 Family Traveller Awards, which will take place for the first time in September.
Enjoying an annual 320 days' sunshine and average summer temperatures of 29⁰C, La Manga Club is the perfect location for a family break, and its array of world-class facilities include three 18-hole golf courses, a 28-court tennis centre, a wide range of junior sports academies and more than 20 bars and restaurants.
The awards are the first of their kind and have been devised by Family Traveller magazine and www.familytraveller.com to recognise the best companies and brands in family travel.
Andrew Dent, publisher of Family Traveller magazine, said: “We are delighted with the travel industry's response to our first ever Family Traveller Awards, and congratulate La Manga Club on being shortlisted.
“More than 2,200 family travel companies and brands were nominated in June and the panel had a very tough decision in whittling it down to the current list. We look forward to seeing if the resort is a winner at our awards ceremony in September.”
Jose Asenjo, general manager of La Manga Club, said: “It's wonderful news that La Manga Club has been nominated for this top award.
“Families are a vital part of the resort and the real essence of what the resort is about – to deliver a relaxed environment and a memorable experience for guests of all ages.”
Set in an area three times the size of Monaco, La Manga Club is the official overseas training base of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and recent accolades include being named best golf hotel in Spain at both the 2014 World Golf Awards and 2015 Today's Golfer Travel Awards – for the fourth successive year.
As well as golf and tennis, the resort's other facilities include a new Leadbetter Golf Academy – the only one in mainland Spain – a new High Performance Sports Centre and a 2,000sqm spa and fitness centre. It also offers the choice of a five-star hotel, four-star serviced apartments and townhouses.
La Manga Club is regularly chosen to host junior sports academies by some of the biggest names in sport including global football giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, while children can also enhance their sporting skills at one of the resort's own academies – with golf, tennis, cricket, rugby, football and triathlon among the activities available.
