British tennis is riding on the crest of a wave after Andy Murray's Wimbledon win and the Davis Cup men's team regaining its place among the world's elite - and Spain's La Manga Club is offering lovers of the game the chance to show off their skills by taking part in the popular end-of-season Murcia Seniors Tennis Open.
The award-winning resort, the official overseas training base of the Lawn Tennis Association, will be staging the event for the 11th year running from December 1-6 and, with the tournament an official Grate Two International Tennis Federation seniors' tournament, competition is guaranteed to be as fierce as ever.
Players will compete at La Manga Club's 28-court academy in a variety of singles and doubles competitions, ranging from over-35 to over-75 categories for men and over-35 to over-65 age groups for ladies, with a selection of luxury tennis and leisure breaks and tennis equipment to be won.
Entry costs just €40 for two tournaments and an extra €15 for a third, with accommodation on offer in the four-star fully-serviced Las Lomas Village apartments or five-star Hotel La Manga Club Principe Felipe, with children under 12 staying free when sharing with their parents in the latter.
A discount of 10 per cent is available off all online accommodation rates when booking on www.lamangaclub.com while an additional 15 per cent saving is on offer for the gala dinner and prize-giving ceremony (normal cost €55) when staying in the hotel or Las Lomas apartments.
Free Wi-Fi and resort shuttle bus is also included and, what's more, all tournament guests will receive a 25 per cent discount on any spa treatments booked; savings of 15 per cent when eating at any of the resort's Amapola, Asia, Luigi's and La Bodega restaurants and complimentary access to Spa La Manga Club's fitness centre, indoor pool, saunas and steam rooms.
Golfing partners are also welcome as La Manga Club is also hosting the 12th Murcia Golf Open from December 3-8 to run alongside the tennis event.
The two competitions will bring to an end another momentous year for the award-winning venue which has seen it continue to set the benchmark for sports and leisure destinations in Europe.
Among its many highlights in 2013, La Manga Club hosted the Spanish Amateur International Golf Championship, staged the prestigious Babolat Tennis Cup for the first time in its history, received four nominations at the World Travel Awards and was voted Spain's best golf resort by UK readers of Today's Golfer magazine for the second year running.
As well as being the overseas training base of the Lawn Tennis Association until 2016, La Manga Club has hosted a collection of the world's top players this year and is set to hit the headlines again in 2014 when it stages the Spanish Senior Amateur Golf Championship in February.
The resort boasts unrivalled facilities as a sport and leisure venue including three 18-hole championship golf courses, a 28-court tennis centre and a 2,000sqm spa and fitness centre. It also offers the choice of a five-star hotel, four-star serviced apartments and townhouses, more than 20 bars and restaurants and great fun for children.
