La Manga Club is widely regarded as Spain's flagship resort and the luxury venue is in line to add to its extensive list of honours after receiving a double nomination at the 1st World Golf Awards, which will be held in Portugal in November.
The inaugural award winners will be announced on Saturday, November 15 and La Manga Club's South Course has been shortlisted to be named as Spain's Best Golf Course, while its five-star Hotel Principe Felipe is among the nominees to be voted Spain's Best Golf Hotel.
The iconic South Course has hosted numerous high-profile professional and amateur tournaments – including staging the Spanish Open on five occasions – and has been the centre of attention for European golfers over the last 12 months.
As well as being chosen to host the 2014 Spanish Seniors Championship and 2014 Children's Championships, the famous par-73 layout also held the 1st La Manga Club PGAs of Europe Pro-Am, the climax to the 2014 ECCO Tour Winter Series and 2014 Footballers' Classic, while the credentials of the resort's luxurious hotel were further endorsed last month by a visit from Hollywood star Liam Neeson.
Voted by readers of Today's Golfer magazine as the best golf resort in Spain for the last three years, La Manga Club deserves its reputation as one of the world's top sports and leisure destinations and was most recently shortlisted as one of only five esteemed venues for the 'Best Golf Resort in the World' at the 2014 Telegraph Ultratravel 100 Awards.
Jose Asenjo, general manager of La Manga Club, said: “It has been a tremendous last 12 months for the resort to have received two such prestigious nominations, and it is testament to the high standards that we strive to deliver at all times.
“La Manga Club is proud of its place among the most iconic golfing venues in the world, everyone is very excited about what lies ahead and we're looking forward to building on our success in the years to come.”
Featuring outstanding facilities including three 18-hole championship golf courses and an array of other five-star sports and leisure amenities and numerous bars and restaurants, La Manga Club added to its world-class facilities this spring by opening its new Leadbetter Golf Academy – the only such facility in mainland Spain.
Set in an area three times the size of Monaco, La Manga Club boasts a proud sporting history including featuring South African star Gary Player as the resort's first director of golf and European Tour legend Severiano Ballesteros as the complex's touring professional between 1980-85.
European Ryder Cup star Luke Donald cut his golfing teeth at the resort during his school holidays on his way to becoming world number one while the award-winning venue is also the official overseas training base of the Lawn Tennis Association.
In addition, the resort offers the ideal place for budding sports stars of the future to hone their skills with a wide selection of academies for boys and girls of all ages including golf, tennis, cricket, rugby, athletics, football and dance, and a range of fun-packed activities in its junior club.
La Manga Club features unrivalled facilities as a sports and leisure destination and, as well as its golf courses, includes a 28-court tennis centre and a 2,000sqm spa and fitness centre. It also offers the choice of a five-star hotel, four-star serviced apartments and townhouses and more than 20 bars and restaurants.
Voting for the World Golf Awards is open until October 6 with the winners set to be crowned at a lavish gala ceremony at the Conrad Algarve, Quinta do Lago, on Saturday, November 15.
