Leading African airline Kenya Airways is pleased to announce the official launch of its new flight to Livingstone in Zambia.

 

The inaugural flight took place on Friday the 7th June 2013 where the Managing Director and CEO of the airline, Dr. Titus Naikuni was part of an official delegation including the Zambian Minister of Transport, Communications, Works and Supply Hon. Christopher Yaluma to celebrate this auspicious occasion.

 

The new flight will operate three times weekly via Harare International Airport in Zimbabwe. Kenya Airways already flies to Zambia's capital, Lusaka.

 

Making this their 60th destination in their routing network, 39 of them being within Africa, this is a clear indication that Kenya Airways is well on track with their 10-year growth strategy titled Project Mawingu, targeting a growth plan of over 115 cities worldwide by the year 2021.

 

The new flight operates three times weekly via Harare International Airport in Zimbabwe. The city of Livingstone joins the airline's network of destinations as it works on growing the routes to over 115 by the year 2021, as underpinned in the airline's 10 year growth strategy. Kenya Airways already flies to Zambia's capital, Lusaka.

 

"As the leading airline in Africa, we are continually working on expanding our footprint in the continent in order to encourage sustainable development", said Dr Titus Naikuni, the Group Managing Director and CEO. Dr Naikuni added that the new destination is part of the airline's move to boost its footprint in the Southern African region.

 

The new route mainly targets tourist traffic to the scenic Victoria Falls whilst also strengthening Kenya Airways' presence in Africa. Livingstone city, also known locally as 'Maramba', is the current capital of the Southern Province of Zambia and also the tourism centre for the Victoria Falls. It was the first capital city of Zambia, before Lusaka. Named after British explorer, David Livingstone, the historical colonial city was established in 1904 and has 368 cultural heritage sites including archaeological sites, historical buildings, engineering structures and traditional sites, 10 of which are national monuments.

 

Also known as an adventure capital, within Africa Livingstone offers a vast array of sights and experiences showcasing top visitor attractions. It is the tourism centre for Victoria Falls, Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park and the Zambezi River. The town is situated just 10km from the Zambian side of Victoria Falls.
