VISITFLANDERS appoints Karen Roebuck as its Great War Centenary Project Manager
VISITFLANDERS is delighted to announce the appointment of Karen Roebuck as its Great War Centenary Project Manager for the UK and Ireland. Karen's position comes at a key point during the run up to commemorations taking place in Flanders over the next five years. With milestone events and memorials taking place in the UK and Belgium in the coming months, she will be working with key industry professionals to assist and promote the region's fascinating history with a universal message of peace.
Karen has considerable tourism industry experience having started in 1989 at Tourism South East. Here, she spent 23 years in a variety of roles including working with travel trade, consumer and international marketing, PR, and business development. For the last five years she was Head of Marketing and in 2011 became Head of Marketing & Membership. Latterly, Karen set up her own tourism marketing consultancy to add to her exceptional experience of working in the public sector.
Her management roles have included developing mutual partnerships and creating marketing opportunities on campaigns which engage a variety of destinations, businesses and transport operators. Previous projects have also included the 50th and 60th anniversaries for D-Day and Defence of the Realm(s remove).
Upon being appointed, Karen stated “It is a great privilege to represent Visit Flanders during unique period in its Great War heritage. My passion for history, reading about World War 1 as well as visiting the exceptional memorials and museums in Flanders Fields, makes this new appointment a real honour for me. I can't think of a better region to represent given its rich historical and museum infrastructure and look forward to working with Visit Flanders during this time”.
