Kangaroo Island, Australia's Great Natural Icon, Captured On Film

South Australian Tourism Commission

Kangaroo Island's raw and rugged natural beauty is the focus of a new film entitled 'Home of the Soul'. Breathtaking images of this iconic island have been created using a striking Hyperlapse time-lapse exposure technique.

Adelaide-based photographer, Gab Rivera, together with the South Australian Tourism Commission, have created a three-minute film released as part of the Through Local Eyes initiative. The short film pieces together 7,356 individual still photographs of Kangaroo Island locations including Seal Bay, Remarkable Rocks and Cape du Couedic Lighthouse.

Gab Rivera said that the light on Kangaroo Island was amazing, making the Hyperlapse technique the best way to do justice to the beautiful, constantly changing environment.

"I had heard a lot about the Island, but had yet to go. I was surprised at how peaceful it felt. It really did feel like there is a connection between the island's natural surrounds and the soul, which is why I named the film "Home of the Soul". It is one of the most beautiful, peaceful places I have ever visited," he said.

To date, Kangaroo Island Hyperlapse – "Home of the Soul" is the 31st film to be released as part of the Through Local Eyes initiative. Collectively the films have amassed over 1.2 million views since the campaign's launch in May 2013.
