Kings Lynn Georgian Burney Festival
Commencing June 6, Kings Lynn will be hosting a range of events this summer commemorating the 300-year history of its outstanding collection of Georgian homes as well as the lives of one of its most feted Georgian families: Charles Burney was one of the country's most lauded organists and cultural beacons and his daughter Frances became a literary phenomenon at the age of 26.
The exhibition 'Georgian Lynn and the Brilliant Burney Family' will run at the iconic Custom House. Meanwhile, during the main Burney Festival June 6 - 21, there will be guided 'Burney Walks' led by King's Lynn Town Guides, music and masquerades, a people's party and Georgian banquet. A full musical programme including concerts in the outstanding King's Lynn Minster will take place during the Burney Festival and again during the King's Lynn Festival later in July.
Throughout the period, Bank House (www.thebankhouse.co.uk, 01553 660492) - itself a Grade II* listed Georgian townhouse - is offering two nights half-board for just £195 per person, based on two people sharing a room. Those booking the two-night break will also receive a complimentary pair of tickets to visit one of our three great local Georgian houses, Houghton, Sandringham, (both just 20 minutes' drive from King's Lynn), or Holkham, (about 40 minutes' drive away, on the stunning North Norfolk coast).
