Golf and the great outdoors go hand in hand and this year Breckenridge, in the heart of Colorado, is encouraging all golfers looking to combine their hobby with a visit to a stunning active holiday destination the whole family can embrace to choose Breckenridge. The elevated mountain town, two hours west of Denver, is home to Breckenridge Golf Course, which is situated in the breathtaking, glacier-sculpted Upper Blue Mountain Valley. Breckenridge also boasts an average summer temperature of 22 degrees, making it the ideal temperature for a day on the green.
Adding to its credentials, Breckenridge is the only town in the world to maintain a Jack Nicklaus-designed 27-hole golf course, with a clubhouse that sits at an elevation of 9,324 feet and offers far-reaching views over the mountain region. Visiting golfers even get an immediate confidence boost as they notice that their golf ball flies further and straighter than at lower elevations due to less air resistance.
For advanced players, the Elk and Beaver course plays 7,145 yards and has a course rating of 73.5 with a slope rating of 151. This set of tees has the second most difficult course rating in the state of Colorado, with each set of tees throughout the Breckenridge Golf Course playing to a par 72. Visitors can also enjoy happy hour at the course from 4.30pm, when 9-holes costs from as little as £19 per person.
Those with a passion for golf and a tipple can embrace Breckenridge's Nine and Wine packages. This summer, visit the Bear Nine course on 7 August from 3.30pm and Elk Nine course on 4 September from 3pm to join in the fun where golfers can sample and learn about selected wines every three holes. Following the game, guests will be treated to special pricing on wines and appetizers. Tickets for Nine and Wine experience cost from £19 plus a £3 wine tasting fee.
In Breckenridge, golf doesn't just have to be a pursuit for the adults with options to allow the whole family to join in. Holidaymakers can bond as a family during one of the Family Night Specials, which is now in its third year and is a social golf outing that will see the whole family take part in playing five holes. Five holes allows a busy family to schedule a golf outing lasting about 1 ½ hours. Suitable for children over five, tickets for those between aged between 5 and 13 are free and adults can purchase special-rate tickets for £13 walking or £16 with a cart.
