Singapore, 18th May 2016 – The St. Regis Singapore enthralled more than 150 jazz aficionados on 13th May, Friday with a sensational performance by St. Regis Connoisseur and globally acclaimed jazz artiste Jamie Cullum.
Presented as part of the Jazz Legends at St. Regis series, guests including Australian High Commissioner His Excellency Philip Green and British High Commissioner His Excellency Scott Wightman, delighted in a concert that began with an opening sequence by The St. Regis Singapore's resident jazz musician Ron Sinclair. This set the stage for Cullum, who performed a mix of originals, alongside his own interpretations of jazz and pop hits. Known for his effervescent on-stage presence, guests were treated to an up-close-and-personal experience with Cullum, who readily interacted with them throughout the show.
“The shows I have done for St. Regis have all been unique with a great atmosphere and very intimate,” said Cullum. “Each hotel has created a beautiful space for me to play in. It has allowed me to play at the types of small concerts that are truly one of a kind. This concert at The St. Regis Singapore has certainly been no different”.
Specially for the evening, signature restaurant Brasserie Les Saveurs was transformed into a jazz lounge in hues of red and velvety black. Guests sipped chilled champagne as they enjoyed the performance while partaking in a selection of delectable canapés crafted specially for the occasion. The evening culminated with an intimate midnight supper after the performance where guests indulged in a lavish epicurean spread together with Jamie Cullum.
“Delighting our guests with exceptional experiences that will thrill their senses have always been a priority for The St. Regis Singapore,” said Mr. Klaus Christandl, General Manager of
The St. Regis Singapore. “With Jamie Cullum's eclectic performance this evening and the amazing interaction between the guests and our St. Regis Connoisseur, the evening has been very rewarding and successful for us. We certainly look forward to presenting more of such unique experiences to our guests.”
The St. Regis brand's partnership with Jamie Cullum, whose music has earned him worldwide recognition as the most successful UK jazz artiste in history, began way back in 2008 when he was engaged to perform at the grand opening of The St. Regis Bali. In December 2014, Cullum's association with St. Regis continued with him choosing to launch his album Interlude in the U.S. with an exclusive performance at The St. Regis New York. Cullum went on to headline the grand opening of The St. Regis Istanbul as well as launch the Jazz Legends at St. Regis series with a performance at The St. Regis Washington, D.C. this past April. As a genuine brand enthusiast, Cullum calls St. Regis his home away from home when he travels and performs around the globe.
Officially appointed a St. Regis Connoisseur in December 2015, Cullum first made his global mark with the multi-platinum album Twentysomething. Since then, Cullum has gone on to attain Grammy, Golden Globe and Brit award nominations for his work, among an impressive list of accolades.
His love of music was cemented after he discovered jazz as a teenager through artists like Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis. After studying English and Film at college, he channeled his passion for music into a career as a singer and pianist. Carving his own path in the music industry, Cullum made his mark through his ability to blur genres with a unique sound born from jazz, pop and rock. His special sound has translated into multi-platinum sales and global success with awards and nominations around world. Launched in January 2016, the celebrated artist has also lent his ear to curate jazz music for the public spaces of all St. Regis hotels and resorts globally. In addition, Cullum masterfully compiled his favorite tunes, capturing a variety of moods, for a playlist which is available on www.stregis.com/jazz.
In addition Cullum's exclusive performance and attending the intimate midnight supper, Cullum also took time to engage with 50 associates from The St. Regis Singapore earlier in the day. Associates were also treated to a delightful 30-minute performance in Astor Bar with an opportunity to interact with Cullum that gave them a more in-depth understanding to the jazz legacy of the St. Regis brand.
Cullum also made a difference into the life of one particular guest – the winner of the Starwood Preferred Guest® Moments. The SPG®MomentsSM program provides SPG members VIP access to concerts, culinary experiences, premier sporting events and more. SPG members can use their Starpoints® to bid on money-can't-buy experience. The SPG Moment is a one-on-one piano lesson with Jamie Cullum as well as a one-night stay in St. Regis Suite and a pair of tickets to Cullum's performance. The guest who flew in all the way from Thailand, won the bid at 60,500 Starpoints and enjoyed a lovely piano lesson with Cullum in the Presidential Suite of The St. Regis Singapore.
