Japan Uni Snow Week Launches 6th Annual Tour

I Like to Party

The Japanese ski town of Hakuba will play host to Japan Uni Snow Week in February 2015. The trip is now into it's 6th year and brings together University students from Australia and the world for a week of snow, culture and partying.

Nestled at the foot of the Japanese Alp's, Hakuba was home to a number of events during the 1998 Nagano Olympics. Famed for it's stunning mountain backdrop the town is well equipped to host Uni week with much of the Olympic infrastructure still in place today.

The trip is scheduled in February which is typically the snowiest month in Hakuba. The town itself averages 12 meters of snow annually which puts Australian resorts to shame with only 3-4 meters a year.

The trip originated at University of Wollongong as part of their snowsports program and has since grown to involve a majority of Australia's ski and snowboard clubs. A key to the growth and success of the trips is inclusiveness, tour leader Tom Bjorksten quotes, “The beauty of this trip is that it really is for everyone, we've had professional skiers and people who are just seeing snow for the first time.”

A highlight for many is a tour to Cortina Ski resort famed for it's powder tree ski areas and rumoured as a secret backcountry location for Travis Rice's next movie. The week also includes a number of social events for students such as the popular scavenger hunt, themed dress up parties, sushi making night and a visit to the world famous Nagano snow monkeys.

The tour commences 8th-15th  February and also includes an optional warm-up week in Niseko and a powder week in Nozawa Onsen for those looking for a little extra.
