The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) highlighted exactly what makes Jamaica one of the world's most popular Caribbean destinations as they unveiled Jamaica House 2014 during the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
On 31 July and 2 August, in association with Barrhead Travel, the Jamaica Tourist Board hosted Jamaica House 2014 at private member's club, 29 in Glasgow. The venue offered the opportunity for JTB's partners, key clients and media to experience the very best food, music and culture that Jamaica has to offer, as well as watching Team Jamaica secure medal success.
Jamaica House 2014 sponsors including world-class airline Virgin Atlantic, leading luxury hotel groups Sandals Resorts, Jewel Resorts and Secrets Resorts, and Scotland's largest broadcaster STV, were amongst guests who enjoyed traditional Jamaican hospitality. Guests sampled Jerk chicken cooked in an exclusive recipe previously prepared by Jamaican chef, Levi Roots, and a bespoke Appleton Rum cocktail list, created specifically for the event.
Jamaica's Minister of Tourism and Entertainment, the Hon Dr. Wykeham McNeill, along with Jamaica's Director of Tourism, Paul Pennicook and Jamaica's High Commissioner to the UK, Her Excellency Aloun Ndombet-Assamba, were joined at 29 by Jamaica's world-class athletes including boxer Sarah Joy Rae and 50m freestyle swimmer, Jevon Atkinson.
Throughout the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, Scotland's largest travel agency, Barrhead Travel opened a pop-up shop at Jamaica House 2014 offering consumers the chance to book an all-inclusive holiday to the Caribbean island for only £795 per person.
Helping to spread Jamaican vibes across Glasgow, the Jamaica Tourist Board also launched a fleet of 50 Jamaica-branded taxis emblazoned with the JTB's branding, 'JAMAICA Get All Right'. The colourfully-designed taxis will operate across the city until 10 August, showcasing Barrhead Travel's exclusive offer for all-inclusive holidays to Jamaica.
Elizabeth Fox, Regional Director for UK and Northern Europe at the Jamaica Tourist Board said: “Jamaica House 2014 offered us the opportunity to thank our key partners and clients for their continued support over recent years, helping to promote Jamaica as one of the most desirable destinations in the world.
In addition to showcasing Jamaican hospitality and allowing guests the chance to join in Jamaica's celebrations of medal success, Jamaica House 2014 also allowed us the opportunity to harness the historical links between our beautiful island and Scotland. As a result of Barrhead Travel's exceptional all-inclusive offer to Jamaica from only £795 and with the additional, increased airlift from Scotland to Jamaica available with Thomson Airways, there's never been a better time to visit the island and we look forward to welcoming visitors from Scotland.”
