Jamaica Tourist Board Bolts To Birmingham To Host Travel Agent Night Of Rum And Reggae

Jamaica Tourist Board

The Jamaica Tourist Board treated over 40 Midlands-based travel agents to a night of rum and reggae at Bar Risa in Birmingham on 10 April 2013, as part of a four-day sales mission in the Midlands.

Guests experienced a true taste of Jamaica as they sipped rum punch and tucked into traditional Jamaican cuisine including ackee and saltfish, spicy jerk chicken and rice and peas. Following a series of informative presentations on Destination Jamaica, guests were also offered the opportunity to win a selection of exciting prizes. These included a bottle of Appleton Special Jamaica Rum and two, individual places on fam trips to Jamaica, one of which is in partnership with Sandals Resorts.

Three lucky travel agents also scooped the top prizes of a three-night stay at one of three luxury resorts including Jewel Runaway Bay Beach & Golf Resort in Ocho Rios, Secrets Resorts in Montego Bay and the newly reopened Trident Hotel in Port Antonio.

The sales mission took place from 9-12 April 2013, during which the Jamaica Tourist Board visited nearly 40 travel agents in the region, including Leicester, Lichfield, Coventry, Rugby and Birmingham, to update them on the latest news on Destination Jamaica.

Travel agents based around the Midlands play a pivotal role in selling Destination Jamaica. Thomson Airways offers a year-round direct charter service to Montego Bay from Birmingham International Airport, a vital hub for travel from the Midlands to Jamaica. Thomson Airways and Thomas Cook also fly direct to Montego Bay from Manchester Airport.
