The Jamaica Tourist Board, in partnership with British Airways, hosted a group of luxury-selling tour operators and travel agents on a five-day tour of Jamaica from 15 - 19 April 2013. The trip was part of the Jamaica Tourist Board's campaign to showcase the island's impressive luxury tourism portfolio to the UK travel trade industry.
Attracting some of the biggest names in luxury travel, including Abercrombie & Kent, Azure Collection, ITC Classics and Scott Dunn, the trip offered the group the chance to re-familiarise themselves with Jamaica's high-end tourism product.
The group flew directly to Kingston in the comfort of British Airways' Club World, which features the world's first fully-flat airline bed, after which they visited several prestigious properties along the north coast of the island. These included site inspections of Jamaica Inn, where supermodel Kate Moss is a regular guest, and Round Hill Hotel & Villas, which boasts guest rooms in Pineapple House designed by Ralph Lauren, who also owns two villas at the resort.
The group toured GoldenEye Hotel & Resort in Oracabessa, the former home of Ian Fleming and where he penned the iconic James Bond novels. The property was recently expanded and now features several villas on the four-acre lagoon. The group also visited the luxurious Half Moon, a RockResort, where Prince Harry stayed during his tour of Jamaica in 2012.
Jamaica is known to have more attractions than anywhere else in the Caribbean and the visit also offered the group the opportunity to experience a range of key tourist activities, including the unique bobsled ride down Mystic Mountain, a tour of the famous Rose Hall Great House and an afternoon swimming with dolphins.
Following the trip, Lucy Grey of Abercrombie & Kent said: "This was my first visit to Jamaica and I was very excited about exploring the luxury side to the island. The trip provided a perfect opportunity to gain first-hand experience of the high-end properties we feature in Jamaica and I will never forget swimming with the dolphins at Half Moon."
