Jamaica Shortlisted By Cruise International Awards 2013 For 'Best Destination (Rest Of World)'

Jamaica Tourist Board

The Jamaica Tourist Board is pleased to announce that Jamaica has once again been shortlisted for 'Best Destination (Rest of World)' in the Cruise International Awards 2013, the only cruise travel awards voted for by consumers.

Launched in 2011 by Cruise International Magazine, the annual Cruise International Awards are Britain's first-ever consumer awards dedicated to celebrating every aspect of the cruise industry. Consumers are invited to vote for their favourite companies and products in 17 categories including Best Cruise Line, Best Luxury Line and Best Shore Excursion.

Conveniently located on the western Caribbean's main shipping routes, Jamaica boasts popular cruise ports in tourist hotspots Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Port Antonio and the recently-opened Historic Falmouth Cruise Port. The island has become a popular stop-off for cruise holidays including leading cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean, P&O Cruises, Carnival Cruise Lines and Princess Cruises. This increase in cruise ship arrival is due primarily to the close partnership between the Jamaica Tourist Board and the Port Authority of Jamaica.

Elizabeth Fox, the Jamaica Tourist Board's Regional Director for the UK and Northern Europe, said: "We are delighted to be nominated for this prestigious award for the second year in a row. Jamaica is an ideal destination for cruise passengers, offering year-round sunshine, a host of excursions and more attractions than anywhere else in the Caribbean. With the Historic Falmouth Cruise Port opening in 2010, Jamaica is now even more accessible to UK cruise holidaymakers and to be shortlisted for an award further highlights Jamaica's appeal to this market."

Cruise International is the UK's only independent cruise magazine and the annual Cruise International Awards recognizes the top cruise companies and products in the travel industry. Voting closes at 11.59pm on 16 August 2013 and the winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on 12 September 2013. To vote for Jamaica, visit http://cruise-international.com/awards.
