Jamaica's entry in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 2013-14, 'JAMAICA - Get All Right', set sail from Tower Bridge, London, on Sunday 1 September as the Jamaica crew started the first leg of the 40,000-mile journey in the world's longest ocean race.
The yacht is part of the new state-of-the-art fleet of ocean racers debuting in the latest edition of the race and the Jamaica Clipper crew took part in a spectacular parade on London's River Thames as Tower Bridge lifted to allow several of the yachts to pass through.
The Jamaica Tourist Board officially named the 70-foot yacht, 'JAMAICA - Get All Right', in true Jamaican style on Thursday. The Founder and Chairman of the Clipper Race, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the Jamaican High Commissioner to the UK, Aloun Ndombet-Assamba, and Pete Stirling, the skipper for the Jamaica yacht, invited guests to soak up the Jamaica-themed hospitality before christening the boat with a bottle of Appleton Estate 21 year old Jamaican Rum.
Sir Robin Knox-Johnston said, "Jamaica has always been one of the most popular locations amongst our crew when we visited in past editions of the Clipper Race. The 'JAMAICA - Get All Right' crew are extremely proud to be representing Jamaica and I know they will do their very best to represent such a beautiful country."
Elizabeth Fox, Regional Director for the Jamaica Tourist Board in UK and Northern Europe said, "We're excited to once again be a sponsor in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 2013-14. This year's race will provide us with the opportunity to take Jamaica around the world and to showcase how it's more than just a holiday destination. Jamaica is a place where people go to enjoy the island's rhythm and positivity; it's a place where people go to relax and to 'Get All Right'. The Clipper Race is the ideal platform to highlight the energy and spirit that Jamaica offers to visitors and we look forward to welcoming the Jamaica Clipper crew in Port Antonio, in May next year."
The Jamaica Clipper crew and Jamaica-branded yacht will return to London in July 2014 after a total of 40,000 miles and 16 ports-of-call on six continents, including the Errol Flynn Marina in Port Antonio, Jamaica.
