Lizard Island has been voted the Pacifics Number One resort by the prestigious US tourism magazine, Conde Nast Traveller. Further, Lizard was also rated the 19th Best Resort in the World in the magazines 2002 Readers Choice Awards Gold List.
We are really delighted with this award, said Mark Campbell, Managing Director, P&O Australian Resorts. Lizard Island has received a number of highly acclaimed accolades since its refurbishment in 2000 and it is very pleasing to find that its understated luxury, its highly professional staff and the quality of the experience that guests enjoy is so appealing to discerning travellers the world over.
The resort accommodates just 80 guests in secluded, beautifully appointed villas. Among the many options for guests to choose from are magical Great Barrier Reef experiences including snorkelling and diving, leisurely dinghy trips to secluded coves with a nourishing seafood hamper provided by Lizards Executive Chef and soothing treatments at the Pavilion Spa. And as befits this boutique resort known as one-on-one, the food is heavenly, sourced from the best providores in the region for the menus that change daily.
Lizard Island does not cater for children under 10 years. The rates starting from $600 per person per night, include all meals and use of catamarans, motorised dinghies, sailboards and paddle skis. Picnic hampers, tennis, island walks and nature trails are also included. The resort is located off the Queensland coast north of Cairns and is accessed by daily flights with Macair Airlines from Cairns, or via charter.
