Last chance this season to catch best views of Northern Lights: There's still time to get to the snowy Arctic and catch the Northern Lights before they fade from view, with Simply Sweden. The specialist tour operator to Sweden and Norway has availability on several of its adventurous winter holidays.
The Iron Trail is a new three-night tour of Swedish Lapland, following the route of the Sami reindeer trains that once hauled iron ore through the icy wilderness. Highlights include two thrilling, 60km self-driven snowmobile transfers, sighting moose and sea eagles; a night at the Aurora Safari Camp, where it's possible to watch the Northern Lights with expert guidance; and a stay in a traditional Swedish red cottage at Pine Bay Lodge. From £2,240 per person, based on two sharing, including flights from the UK to Luleå, transfers, full-board, activities and winter kit. Departs Fridays until end of March.
Magical Moments in Lapland is a four-night holiday visiting two innovative Swedish hotels under the Northern Lights corridor. Guests stay at the Treehotel, ultra-modern cabins cradled in the treetops, and the Icehotel, created annually from the waters of the nearby Torne river and containing a gallery of art, photography and ice sculptures. From £1,645 per person, based on two sharing, including flights from the UK to Luleå, transfers, accommodation, some meals and winter kit. Daily departures until end of March.
Lofoten Islands – Northern Lights explores this cluster of Norwegian islands within the Arctic Circle, steeped in history stretching back to Viking times. Guests travel to Harstad, home of the world's northernmost medieval church, enjoy a cruise on the Hurtigruten, and stay in a traditional fisherman's cabin, or rorbeur. From £1,165 per person, based on four sharing, including flights from the UK to Harstad, transfers, seven nights' B&B in a hotel and rorbeur, and the Hurtigruten day cruise. Departures until end of March.
