October is the spookiest month of the year, especially for visitors to Six Flags theme parks worldwide, which are transformed into haunted hot spots for the whole family.
With the chills and thrills of Six Flags rides and attractions as a backdrop, the annual Fright Fest extravaganza turns the entire park into a haunted Halloween party offering park-goers a range of Halloween activities, from highly produced and realistic haunted experiences to more sedate trick-or-treating.
"Halloween has grown to be the second most popular holiday in America, and Fright Fest has grown along with it," says Six Flags senior vice president of marketing, Hank Salemi. "When we pioneered the concept of a park-wide Halloween event 20 years ago, we had no idea it would become so incredibly popular."
Six Flags' Fright Fest began as a series of small weekend fall festivals in the early 1980s, and has grown into a multi-million dollar, month-long series of Halloween-oriented events, complete with haunted shows and attractions, costumed characters and themed rides.
"Halloween isn't just for kids in the U.S. anymore," said Salemi. "Teens love it, parents love it and even the 20-to-40-year old age group gets into the Halloween spirit. Six Flags theme parks offer an attractive alternative where families and kids can enjoy themselves in a safe, controlled environment."
During October, all Six Flags parks are drenched in Halloween themes and decor for a month of scary fun. Each park celebrates Fright Fest differently, but most offer special hair-raising live shows; spooky games such as Fearanoia - the next generation of reality terror tag combining fear and paranoia; haunted abodes such as Brutal Planet, which combines mind-altering illusions and high-tech special effects; costumed characters; and special events such as screaming contests and Halloween weddings.
Fright Fest takes place every weekend in October. Pick-A-Park for specific hours of operation and admission prices for the park near you.
