Leading UK holiday parks operator Away Resorts is preparing for an August bank holiday weekend with a difference as it looks to break a record for having the world's biggest cream pie fight.
Holidaymakers at Away Resorts's five parks across the UK will have cream all over their faces as the operator invites its guests to throw a pie or two at family, friends and fellow guests as it attempts to break the record for the world's largest shaving cream pie fight on. Even the holiday parks operator CEO Carl Castledine will be getting in on the recording-breaking act.
The cream pie record breaker will take place at the same time across all five parks on 28 August. The holiday resorts are: Whitecliff Bay on the Isle of Wight, which is the operator's coastal escape; Tattershall Lakes Country Park is the lakeside retreat in Lincolnshire; Mill Rythe Holiday Village is the entertainment-focused resort; Barmouth Bay is located on the north Wales coast with easy access to Snowdonia; and the park's newest acquisition is Mersea Island, Away Resorts' island escape just off the Essex coast.
While not throwing cream pies, there's a plethora of activities to indulge it at Away Resorts's five parks. These include two jam-packed programmes of activities for all of the family to take part in.
My Active activities include body zorbing, Balanceability (balance bikes for 3-5-year-olds), cheerleading school, dads and lads football, aquajets, hoverboards, hoverball archery, hoverball, laser tag, kayaking, raft building and target archery.
The Play activities feature a wide range of arts and crafts such as pottery painting, stained-glass window making and hand puppets as well as circus skills, puppet theatre and Star on Holiday talent competition.
Evening entertainment includes West End-inspired shows, bands and cabaret, as well as the much-loved bingo.
And of course, there's each location to explore, from the lakeside retreat of Tattershall Lakes to the coastal resorts of Whitecliff Bay, Mill Rythe (Hayling Island), Mersea Island and Barmouth Bay.
Accommodation: there is a wide variety to choose from at each park, including standard and serviced pitches in camping and touring fields, clamping options in the Canvas Villages, caravans and holiday homes with sea views and a great selection of lakeside lodges.
How much? Three nights' camping on a standard pitch cost from £175 from 26-29 August for two adults and two children at Tattershall Lakes. Three nights in a Comfort Caravan that sleeps six start at £395 at Tattershall Lakes.

Park investment
Away Resorts has embarked on a £12 million investment plan at its parks, with Tattershall Lakes Country Park receiving the biggest-ever single investment in one holiday park with £4 million spent on creating a brand new entertainment complex called The Merlin, with a further £4 million being spent around the park, including the creation of another 250 pitches and accommodation units over the next two years.
The Merlin entertainment complex was opened on 28 June by Battle of Britain Spitfire pilot, 98-year-old Flying Officer Ken Wilkinson with the focal point of the centre being a life-size replica of a Battle of Britain Spitfire suspended from the ceiling, celebrating the heroes from the RAF, who have a base located near Tattershall Lakes. The Battle of Britain Flight Memorial Centre is also located close by.
The Spitfire Bar inside the Merlin is completely new with a larger dining area, extra space for kids' activities during the day, dining, dancing and drinking, a huge projection TV screen and new arcade games. Also, inside the Merlin is a spa complete with gym and indoor pool will keep you fit and active plus enjoy great facilities such as our steam room, sauna and outdoor hot tub with lakeside views.
In addition to The Merlin, a further 250 pitches and accommodation units will added to the resort over the next two years, including picturesque lake side holiday homes, lodges and caravans that are available to buy.
Across the portfolio of parks, there are plans for a multi-million pound investment to improve the facilities at Whitecliff Bay for the 2017 season. And the Mersea Island Holiday Park is going to get a new indoor swimming pool and a big extension and renovation of the bar and entertainment complex.
