The Island of Procida has been named the Italian Capital of Culture for 2022
The beautiful island of Procida has been named Italy's Capital of Culture for 2022, becoming the first island to do so twice since the award was established in 2014.- Procida's vision for its role as the Capital of Culture is themed around 'La cultura non isola' translated as 'culture doesn't isolate', to convey a message of culture that echoes as a message for the whole country in the months to come). Procida is a small island with no more than 10,000 inhabitants and a long history that dates back to around the 15th century, and its iconic vibrant, colourful houses are recognisable all over the world.
The National Italian Tourist Board to host the 2022 News UK Travel Awards
Following a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the National Italian Tourism Board (ENIT) will host the News UK Travel Awards in May 2022. The News UK Awards are considered one of the most prestigious travel industry accolades, celebrating with reader-voted winners from travel suppliers and destinations. The travel editors and writers from these publications will be hosted in Italy along with senior travel industry experts and CEOs of UK-based travel organisations.
The City of Torino has been chosen to host the Eurovision Song Contest in May 2022
The capital of Piedmont will be the third Italian city to host the event after Naples in 1965 and Rome in 1991 following Maneskin's win at last year's ceremony. The final event will take place at the PalaOlimpico stadium whose incredible stage has hosted events such the 2006 Winter Olympics.
Turin to host the ATP Tennis Championship
The city of Turin has been selected to host the ATP Tennis Championship for 2021 to 2025. The five-year contract will see the world's greatest players in men's professional tennis compete for the biggest indoor title. The event will be taking place in the Pala Alpitour stadium, Italy's biggest indoor sporting stadium.
Italy takes the movie industry by storm
Cinephiles will be pleased to see famous Italian cities and regions featured in recent and upcoming blockbuster movies. The UNESCO town of Matera saw James Bond manoeuvre his Aston Martin DB5 through its picturesque streets and brought this wonderful city back into the limelight. The next Indiana Jones movie starring Harrison Ford, Antonio Banderas and Phoebe Waller-Bridge is also currently filming in Sicily
