ITALIAN TOURIST BOARD TRAVEL WRITING AWARDS 2014

The awards ceremony of the eight Italian National Tourist Board Travel Writing Awards took place on 25 February 2015 at the stylish Getti Italian Restaurant in Jermyn Street.

During the course of the Italian-themed drinks and canapés reception, awards in 6 categories were presented to the winners and the runner-ups by Valerio Scoyni, ad-interim Director of the Italian National Tourist Board and the members of the Press Office team: Stefania Gatta, Alessandra Smith and Adriana Vacca.

It was, as always, a difficult task to choose the winners and runner ups out of more than 110 articles and guide books such was the level of quality of the travel pieces and we thank all the participants for their entries.

The winners and runner ups were as follows:

1.Category: Best newspaper article

Runner-up: “Vintage Sicily-new wine tourism in Sicily” by Liz Boulter, published by The Guardian

Winner: “Island hopping around the Venetian Lagoon” by Norman Miller, published by The Times

2.Category: Best magazine article

Runner-up: “All  quiet on the Eastern front” by Mark Nicholls, published by Italia! magazine

Winner: “12 new ways to fall in love with Rome” by Oliver Smith, published by Lonely Planet Traveller Magazine

3.Category: Best on-line article

Runner-up: EX-EQUO: “Trekking up Vesuvius” by Reza Amirinia, in www.justabouttravel.net AND “Gourmet skiing in Alta Badia” by Helen Hokin, in www.foodtripper.com 

Winner: “Stunning Sicily” by Juliet Rix, in Go Holiday Magazine

4. Category: Best photography as part of a travel article

Runner-up: Susan Schwartz for the photographs that illustrate her article “Ten Best Bits of Venice” www.bestbitsworldwide.com

Winner: Jonathan Perugia for the photographs that illustrate the article “La Dolce Via” published by The Sunday Times Travel Magazine

5. Category: Best Travel Guide

Runner-up: “Turin Italy Guide” by Lara Stathan & Denise Otero, www.turinitalyguide.com

Winner: “Holiday guide to Calabria” by Mary Novakovich published by The Guardian

6. Special Category- Recognition of distinction

Runner-up: Daniela De Rosa- The It Factor magazine

Winner: Andy Harris – “A slice of Italy”-Jamie Magazine
