NEW ROOMS OPEN AT THE MARTA MUSEUM IN TARANTO, PUGLIA
The MARTA Museum in Taranto has just opened some new rooms on the second floor. The rooms contain some of the most precious antiquities from Magna Grecia, the part of Italy colonized by the Greeks. Objects and statues relating to athletics and other sport are now on show and among others the famous “Tomb of the Athlete”, dating 500-480 BC, which was found in 1959 and contained the skeleton of a young man of about 30 years of age and some trophies won by him at the Athens games.

MUSIC ON THE LAKE

As part of the events celebrating Mantua Italian Capital of Culture 2016, the architect Joseph Grima will build floating installations on Lago Inferiore, one of the three lakes that surround the city. Visitors will able to walk on the seven linked-up floating “islands” and experience music and other events live on this “archipelago” resembling lotus flowers on a pond.
PALAZZO D'ARCO NOW OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
Palazzo d'Arco, residence of the ancient family of Counts d'Arco, was occupied till 1973, when Giovanna d'Arco, the last descendent of the noble family died. The visit takes place through the aristocratic rooms fully furnished with antiques, the art gallery, the collections of pottery, of precious silverware and of various copper pots. There is also a library and historical archive of the family with many old documents and parchments. Very interesting to visit is the Zodiac room, designed by Giovan Maria Falconetto in the early 16th century, and the Natural Science Museum, the first in Mantua. SPANISH STEPS RE-OPENED TO THE PUBLIC
The iconic Spanish Steps in Rome have re-opened to the public after extensive cleaning and restoration work financed by the jeweller Bulgari. The masterpiece by the architect De Sanctis dating back to the 18th century, has been cleaned up and its travertine steps restored for the public to enjoy one more.

SAN MINIATO WHITE TRUFFLE FAIR

This will be the 46th edition of the San Miniato White Truffle Fair and will take place in the medieval hamlet of San Miniato in Tuscany. The all town becomes an open-air workshop where the precious tuber is offered in various forms: truffle oils, salami, cheeses and more. Local restaurants will offer specially prepared dishes with white truffle.

Since 1998, the lovely town of Corinaldo in the Le Marche region hosts the “Feast of the Witches” to coincide with Halloween. The town transform itself into an open air amusement park with attractions such as the tunnel of fear, fear-inspiring places and dressed up characters in the most frightening costumes. The main event is the election of Miss Witch, a beauty contest with a difference!

Siracusa celebrates Santa Lucia's birthday on 13 December in a touching and emotional celebration. The Feast starts on 1st December with a festive playing popular tunes played by the band along the city streets, on 9 December the religious celebrations start in the St. Lucia Chapel in the Cathedral to culminate on 13 December with a solemn procession and fireworks.
