The International Organization for Standardization has a membership of 163 countries, and with a portfolio of more than 19000 standards provides practical tools for all three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, environmental, and societal.
Quite simply, ISO standards provide a model to follow when setting up and operating a management system. These standards are formulated and a result of international, expert consensus which provides a number of benefits, such as efficient use of resources, improved risk management, amongst others. The ISO 14001 family addressed various aspects of environmental management, an aspect Jetwing promotes heavily through a dedicated initiative named the Jetwing Eternal Earth Programme. In addition to Community Outreach and Humanitarian Programmes, all Jetwing hotels are designed to be as sustainable as possible with energy and resources used sparingly. Through earth saving practices such as dependence on renewable energy in the form of solar power, energy efficient lighting, and recycling waste, Jetwing has constantly been in the forefront of green practice.
ISO 14001:2004 specifies requirements for an environmental management system to enable an organization to develop and implement a policy and objectives which take into account legal requirements and other requirements to which the organization subscribes, and information about significant environmental aspects. It applies to those environmental aspects that the organization identifies as those which it can control and those which it can influence.
