African Conservation Experience have an exciting opportunity for an experienced freelance writer, editor or journalist to join the Game Ranger Guide Course in South Africa from 20 May - 6 June 2014.
The Opportunity
African Conservation Experience (ACE) have one place on the course available for a journalist or editor. The place includes accommodation (shared), meals, transport in South Africa, all course related activities and entry fees. The course will be run as normal, with regular participants - this is not an exclusive press trip. The successful applicant is encouraged to join the course and all activities as part of the group.
Not included: International airfares to Johannesburg. Arrival needs to be by 9 am on 20 May, departure after 8 pm on 6 June. Spending money, travel insurance (compulsory), vaccinations, visa fees (if applicable)
Course Details
This 2 week course offers an intensive, field-based introduction to the wildlife and habitats of South Africa. During the first week participants explore animal and plant identification, tracking, geology, game drive ethics and safety in the field in Mapungubwe Private Nature Reserve. The course then moves into Kruger National Park for an overnight stay and a module on approaching dangerous game on foot, before finishing in a private reserve near Hoedspruit with a course on identifying and handling dangerous snakes and reptiles. Expression of Interest
Any editor, writer or journalist is welcome to submit an expression of interest to Ellen Sziede at ellen@conservationafrica.net Please detail the publication you work for or, for freelance writers, reference to a portfolio of work, and how a feature on the Game Ranger Guide Course would tie in. Preference will be given to candidates who can provide a guarantee for publication of a feature.
Deadline for expressions of interest is 4 May 2014. Submitting an expression of interest does not guarantee a place - African Conservation Experience only have one place available, and reserve the right to choose the candidate that it is offered to.
