- 122 Strangers have clubbed together to crowdfund their own private island.
- With $100,000 raised so far, investors are already eyeing up their tropical purchase.
Fast cars, mansions and luxury holidays around the world might seem like the life of a millionaire, but did you know that you can buy your very own island for as little as £3,000?
Richard Branson owns Necker Island, while Johnny Depp has a 45-acre tropical Island in the Caribbean... but while you might assume this level of luxury is only affordable to the rich and famous, a consortium of entrepreneurs are out to prove otherwise!
'Let's Buy an Island' is a simple concept. For anyone who aspires to (co)own a private Island, now is their chance! A contribution of around £3,000 is enough to become a shareholder in the project, and own a slice of that island life.
Jodie Hill, investor at Let's Buy an Island explains: “How many times have you wished that you could go away and have your own Island – away from everyone – just to switch off from the world and relax in the most beautiful surroundings?
“A small group of us shared this dream and decided to turn it into a reality. We have set up the first ever crowdfunded private island project where the investors be able to use the island for holiday and will also be able to earn money from their investment.”
To become a part of Let's Buy an Island, interested investors pay a fixed price which then makes them a shareholder and gives voting rights when choosing the Island and how it's commercially developed.
Since being established in 2018, the shareholders have visited numerous sites around the world and created a shortlist of possible Islands to buy, based on location, cost, commerciality and numerous other factors. The shortlist includes:
- Malaipo Island, Philippines
- Coffee Island, Belize
- Panama Island, Panama
- Mannion Island, Ireland
- Nangashanti Resort, Bornea
Once the target number of investors has been achieved, the Island will be purchased and developed, turning it into an idyllic holiday destination.
