Intrepid Travel has today launched a short film as part of the iconic adventure travel company's 25 year birthday celebrations.
Now the largest adventure travel company in the world, Intrepid Travel was started in 1989 by two mates from Melbourne University - Darrell Wade and Geoff Manchester - who ventured across Africa with a small group in a converted council truck and dreamed up a grassroots travel company based on real life adventures.
The new 90-second video was inspired by Miriam Beard's quote "Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living." It encapsulates a series of moments filmed on the road across 12 countries, and has a variety of faces, food, landscapes and transportation pop up on the screen, giving viewers an insight into the 'real life experiences' travellers encounter on an Intrepid Travel adventure.
"It is wonderful articulation of the Intrepid experience," said James Thornton, Managing Director. "As we travel in small groups with local leaders, we're able to go beyond sightseeing to the heart of a destination, and that leads to extraordinary encounters that stay with our travellers forever. This video captures these moments in a way that we hope inspires people to pack their bags".
The video was created by Intrepid Travel's food travel partners Daniel Klein and Mirra Fine of The Perennial Plate. Having just returned from their Real Food World Tour with Intrepid Travel, which resulted in a series of short videos on sustainable eating around the world, the documentary-making duo had over 100 hours of footage to choose from.
"There were clips of breathtaking scenery and of famous monuments, but we wanted to pick the images that represented the most valuable, moving times we had over the past year and a half - and those were the rare, beautiful moments in which we found ourselves a part of real, local life," said Mirra Fine. "I think those experiences are what Intrepid strives for - to get off the beaten path and meet a stranger; to find yourself in someone's home eating dinner in Italy; in the rice fields of Vietnam; in a small village in Ethiopia. That's what we tried to show in this film."
