A dream job for children is up for grabs at the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort this summer as the world famous attraction recently announced a unique new job vacancy - Junior Model Maker. Information on the position below. Giorgio Pastero, master LEGO Model Maker at LEGOLAND is available for telephone interview to explain the qualities he'll be looking for, plus more about the day-to-day life of a model maker and what it's like doing every child's dream job every day! For more info or to book a slot, please contact Amy Williams or Karen Abrams on amy@freerange.eu or 0207 402 9966.
“We get inundated with enquiries from young fans fascinated by what we do and wanting to come behind the scenes to join us in the model making studio" explains Senior Model Maker Giorgio Pastero. "We wouldn't get much work done if we opened the doors to everyone who asked, so this year we have decided to run a special competition. We're aiming to give six lucky LEGO builders the opportunity to come and join a master class with the team here and then one of them will be appointed the very first Junior LEGO Model Maker!"
Applicants for the Junior Model Maker role should be aged between 5 and 12, love building LEGO models and must be available to attend an interview with the grown up Model Makers responsible for the 80 million LEGO bricks across the Resort on 30 July. All wannabe builders need to do is create a LEGO model of an animal of their choosing and tell the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort team why this would be their dream job. Applicants can find out all about the entry process at www.legoland.co.uk/juniormodelmaker. Entries must be with the team by Friday 28 June, the six candidates for the position will be selected by Friday 5 July and invited for an interview styled master class on 30 July 2013.
"We will interview the candidates in the same way we would adult applicants" explained Giorgio. "We will give a master class in some of the key techniques and skills required and then set a building task. We will be looking at two age groups to make things fair so we'll have three candidates aged 5-8 and three aged 9-12. The appointed Junior Model Maker will come back to work with us but we hope ALL the candidates will have an amazing experience; it's very rare anybody gets to visit the studio, so it's a very special opportunity."
Each of the six candidates will be invited to stay overnight at the Resort with their families, interviewing on day one and enjoying all the rides and attractions on the Resort on day two, after a stay in the unique LEGOLAND Hotel.
Positions for Model Makers rarely come up at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort and this is the first time a junior role has been recruited for. The team expects there to be enormous interest and hopes to make a few fans’ dreams come. Giorgio sums up, "Our selection will be as much about imagination and enthusiasm as about skill. We're not looking for the perfect architecturally designed model, we're looking for passion, ingenuity and flair - which can't be taught and anyone, of any age, can display!"
The appointed Junior Model Maker will return for another stay later in the year and will join the team updating some of the 1,800 models featured in the LEGOLAND Hotel, celebrating its first birthday this year.
