HELENA, Ala., January 17, 2017 – International Expeditions is expanding its India tour options with a new river cruise combining Kaziranga National Park and the Brahmaputra River departing March 30 and April 6, 2017. Four departures are scheduled in 2018. The 12-day journey travels deep into the remote Assam region — home to rare wildlife, tea plantations and tribal villages.

“River cruising is more popular and rewarding than ever. People also crave more meaningful interaction with exotic cultures and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to observe rare and beautiful wildlife,” said Bill Robison, Director of Program Development. “This new expedition allows guests to be among the first to explore a remote and evolving corner of our world while still enjoying deluxe accommodations, authentic cuisine and superb leadership.”

International Expeditions' new India river cruise on the unspoiled Brahmaputra takes in one of the last parks to find the Asian one-horned rhino – India's Kaziranga National Park. According to Save the Rhino, the population of one-horned rhinos is only approximately 3,500. In addition to excursions watching for the rare rhino, IE guests can spot seven species of primate, including endangered western hoolock gibbon, and gangetic dolphin.

International Expeditions' guests also enjoy a range of experiences designed to survey India's cultural heritage. In Kolkata (Calcutta), once the capital of the English empire in the East, travelers discover colonial architecture and temples as well as book and flower markets. Other included excursions will have guests sampling tea at a family-hosted lunch on a tea estate, learning about silk weaving, watching masked performances and meeting Kamlabari Satra priests.

After days spent exploring the wilds of India, guests return to the deluxe 23-cabin Mahabaahu. During their five-night Brahmaputra cruise, travelers may enjoy views of the snow-covered Himalayas during morning yoga on the top deck, lectures by marine and environmental experts, or curl up with a book in the well-stocked library. Other amenities on board include an inviting pool and spa.

Prices for the 12-day Brahmaputra River cruise start at $6,698, and include all accommodations, excursions, transfers, tips to service staff and bottled water throughout.

IE has offered wildlife-focused experiences in India for more than two decades. Other India tour options include Explorer's India, a multi-faceted showcase of the country's enchanting cultural highlights and premier national parks, and India Wildlife Safari, which offers opportunities to encounter the elusive tiger — plus leopards, sloth bear, four-horned antelope and other wildlife — while visiting four national parks.
