With sweeping views of the River Thames and a string of iconic sights along London's North Bank, from the Tower of London to the Gherkin and the Walkie-Talkie, this year's host venue creates the perfect backdrop for finding tranquillity and unity.

In 2014, while addressing the 69th regular session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the Honourable Prime Minister of India Mr Narendra Modi urged the world to adopt an International Day of Yoga: “Yoga is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition. It embodies unity of mind, body and soul; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature and a holistic approach to health and well-being. Yoga is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with ourselves, the world and nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help us to deal with climate change. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day".

This is the second year of International Day of Yoga celebrations in the UK, following 2015 when numerous events took place across the UK, as well as in 177 other countries. This year, International Day of Yoga will be celebrated by more than 20 yoga and cultural institutions across the UK.
