Inspired by NAIDOC Week celebrations across the nation – a week of great cultural significance, respect of Aboriginal origins and artistic expression –InterContinental Sydney, Sotheby's Australia and Utopia Art Sydney have collaborated to curate a unique exhibition by leading contemporary Indigenous artists to celebrate NAIDOC Week inside the hotel.
Exclusive to InterContinental Sydney, the exhibition includes exceptional paintings and sculptures consigned by highly renowned artists Willy Tjungurrayi, Gloria Petyarre, Ronnie Tjampiyjinpa and George Tjungurrayi.
As each painting depicts the travel, Indigenous teachings and explanations for contemporary customs, the exhibition allows both national and international visitors to immerse in a journey of discovery to combine contemporary art with ancestral storytelling.
With the International and National Visitor Survey revealing more than 328,000 international and domestic visitors engaging in Aboriginal tourism experiences in NSW alone*, the new exhibition represents the growing interest of interactive experiences and cultural immersion. InterContinental Sydney is also proud to acknowledge and pay respect to the traditional owners of the land on which the very hotel is sited: the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation.
Strengthening InterContinental's strong reputation for delivering immersive Insider experiences for its guests, the exhibition marks the second major art installation inside the gallery, following Sculpture in the City which concluded in April.
