Viewers who have been inspired by the magnificent Yorkshire scenery in the new Channel 5 series of 'All Creatures Great and Small' can stretch their legs and explore it for themselves on a brand new small group guided walking holiday with the original experts, Ramblers Walking Holidays.  (01707 818705, www.ramblersholidays.co.uk).  

Created in partnership with the Field Studies Council (FSC) and based at FSC Tarn House in the beautiful Malham Tarn Nature Reserve , the new four day holiday features a range of guided walks throughout the area, with its craggy, remote scenery, far reaching skies and picturesque villages and hamlets.  Highlights include visits to Grassington, which has been used as the fictional village of Darrowby in the series, the waterfall at Janet's Foss where Herriot goes swimming and the wonderful landscapes in and around Malham, used for many of the shots of rolling Dales.

Malham Tarn is surrounded by spectacular limestone scenery, forming part of the National Nature Reserve, and home to wild woodlands, rare species and bird life. Formed during the ice age, the tarn became a magnet for herds of wild animals and hunters during the Stone Age.  Malhamdale has some of the most spectacular examples of limestone scenery in the whole of the National Park and beyond.  As well as being a popular film location – other programmes featuring the region include Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Emmerdale, the area inspired a generation of artists including David Hockney and writers from Wordsworth to Charles Kingsley, who was inspired by its beauty to write 'The Water Babies'.

The holiday is one of two new holidays created by Ramblers Walking Holidays in partnership with the FSC.  The second is based in Slapton Ley, on the on the South West Coastal Path in Devon, where the largest natural lake in south-west England meets the sea at Start Bay.  Abundant with wildlife, this natural environment makes a fascinating place to explore and is a fantastic base for walking in the local area.  The undulating path hugs the coast as it meanders through the Slapton Ley nature reserve, making it a great place to start a ramble, passing through small hamlets, over linear sandy beaches, and atop craggy cliffs, all with spectacular sea views and rolling countryside vistas as you go.

Both holidays start at £399 per person for four nights full board en suite accommodation, based on two people sharing, and have departures throughout September and October 2020.  Prices also include local transport to and from the local walks.  Extensive steps have been taken by Ramblers Walking Holidays to ensure that their group trips operate safely in the current situation.  Groups have been limited to 6-12 guests, and they have ensured that transport companies and activity providers can maintain safe distancing between guests, and accommodation providers are able to offer the enhanced new cleaning measures necessary to minimise risks.
