October 2017:  With the second Paddington Bear film set to premier this November and 2018 marking the 60th anniversary of the adventurous Peruvian bear, Inkaterra is celebrating the Michael Bond classic with the launch of their new “Andean Spectacled Bear” programme. 

Taking place at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, the three-night programme will allow families and Paddington Bear fans to get up close and personal with the “real life Paddington Bear” at Inkaterra's Spectacled Bear Project. Shadowing an Inkaterra Explorer Guide and expert Bear Keeper, guests will visit the rehabilitation centre, captivity and semi-liberty areas, operated by Inkaterra's NGO the Inkaterra Asociación, where they will learn more about the project before helping the keepers clean, monitor and feed the bears – sadly, no marmalade sandwiches allowed!

During their time, guests can also enjoy their bear-friendly welcome pack, containing a greeting from José Koechlin, Founder of Inkaterra, a copy of “Coco, The Andean Bear Story” and a One Sol coin. Unlike most pennies, the coin has been uniquely minted with an Andean Bear from the Inkaterra Spectacled Bear Project in a bid to raise awareness around the endangered species in Peru. For the little ones, a Machu Picchu Explorer Kit will open their minds to the wonders of the Andean Cloud Forest and inspire them to adventure, just like Paddington Bear.

A trip to the Andes would not be complete without a visit to Machu Picchu. Guests can head up the mountains with an Inkaterra Explorer Guide and enjoy a three hour guided tour of the ancient citadel. 

At the hotel a range of activities are on offer, from early bird watching, where guests can spot some of the 214 bird species, including the iconic Cock-of-the-Rock, the Mot Mot and the Golden Quetzal, as well as the 18 hummingbird species that live within the hotel grounds. Nature lovers can also try their hand at orchid hunting within the tropical gardens, home to the world´s largest range of native orchid species in their natural habitat (AOS) (372 species). 

In the afternoons, families can curl up with a delicious Afternoon Tea – served complimentary by the hotel – and talk about the life of Coco, one of the centre's resident Spectacled Bears with the team and comment their experience. 

The Andean Bear package cost starts from US$1,365, price per guest based on double occupancy and includes three nights at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel with breakfast, lunch, dinner and tea time. A three hour guided tour of Machu Picchu citadel with a certified bilingual Inkaterra Explorer Guide and welcome kit are also included.
