The Not Forgotten Association team of 16 serving and ex-service participants aim to complete the Three Peaks Challenge starting with the UK's highest peak, Ben Nevis, on Tuesday 09 September. Moving onto Cumbria for Scafell Pike, Wednesday 10 then travelling to Snowdon for the final ascent, Thursday 11. The team taking part are mainly ex-service and include those with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), brain injuries and impaired vision - challenges within themselves. Participants will be accompanied by a doctor and a support team of seven Royal Marines together with three Mountain Leaders and drivers.
As part of the Not Forgotten Association's remit to 'act generally for the benefit of service and ex-service personnel with disabilities or who are wounded' they organise a range of activity breaks. Offering younger service men and women opportunities to take on challenges that can be both physically and mentally demanding. Facing and overcoming these challenges gives them a tremendous boost in their recovery from injury. Being with like-minded people provides the camaraderie which will help them through the challenge.
A number of the participants were injured in Afghanistan and have already benefitted from NFA's support, for example: Troy Conner: “The NFA has been very kind and supportive to me as well as many others over the years. I feel privileged and proud to be affiliated with such a charity/family that is so close to my heart. In my opinion the Not Forgotten Association is paramount to supporting the injured.” Stu Harris: “The best thing is when you meet people who have been through the same as you. The Not Forgotten brings people like this together.”
Online donations to the NFA can be made here.

The Not Forgotten Association
In August 1920 Marta Cunningham established The “NOT FORGOTTEN” Association with the object of providing entertainment and recreation for the war wounded to alleviate the tedium of their lives and give them something to which they could look forward.
In 1926 the Association officially defined its task as being 'to provide comfort, cheer and entertainment for the wounded ex-servicemen still in hospital as a result of the Great War'. As the years went on the Association has adapted to meet changing needs and extended its activities to include those wounded in more recent conflicts. It continues to provide support to approximately 10,000 men and women each year.

The Three Peaks Challenge
The National Three Peaks Challenge is an event, often used for fundraising, in which participants attempt to climb the highest mountains of Scotland, England and Wales, sometimes within 24 hours. Walkers climb each peak and are driven from the foot of one mountain to the next. The three peaks are; Ben Nevis (1,344m), the highest mountain in Scotland, Scafell Pike (978m), the highest mountain in England and Snowdon (1,085m), the highest mountain in Wales. The total distance walked is estimated at 44 km, with a total ascent of 3,407m.
