Zambias longest standing collection of privately owned camps and lodges has seen a number of transformations and new builds in 2009 and looks forward to a busy 2010 with a number of new and exciting itineraries. The original camps continue to offer an unrivalled experience with the introduction of a new family safari house Kigelia House at Sausage Tree Camp which sleeps four guests in two bedrooms and includes a large living room, bar and plunge pool. Sindabezi Island has undergone a complete refurbishment with all five thatched cottages rebuilt from the ground up, two of which have been transformed into honeymoon suites complete with ensuite bathrooms and roll top baths for the ultimate luxury.
Other news includes the introduction of the new Luangwa Conservation & Community Levy by a number of Luangwa safari operators including The Bushcamp Company and Robin Pope Safaris. This levy goes towards the continued efforts of the South Luangwa Conservation Society to help and educate locals about the detrimental effects of poaching for example. Norman Carr Safaris celebrates their 60th Anniversary with a number of new itineraries and Chiawa Camp acquires full ownership of Old Mondoro which will undergo a refurb in 2010.

Africas original permanent tented safari camp has helped sustain tourism levels in the Masai Mara during the economic downturn by offering competitive rates, attractive special interest packages and unusual safari circuits to guests.
The company has also continued with its responsible tourism initiatives by helping to install a fresh water pump at the local Aitong Primary School located on the edge of the Masai Mara. Until recently the school lacked a sufficient supply of clean water and the school children were drinking from a very unhygienic muddy pool. Guests are now welcome to visit the project to see the good work being done and the huge benefits this brings the local community.

The pioneering Peruvian eco travel company has reached new heights with the opening of the Canopy Tree House at Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica. Sitting at approximately 30m (90ft) above the forest floor, it is one of South Americas highest jungle rooms.
Built in the South Eastern Amazon tree tops, this exclusive lodge provides a remarkable opportunity to view the surrounding flora and fauna from a wildly different perspective. The Tree House offers a once in a lifetime experience to observe the rainforests treetop flora & fauna, particularly at dawn, dusk and during the night. During the evenings adventure seekers can enjoy rustic luxury with dinner and a glass of champagne or a pisco sour watching the stars before exploring the Canopy Walk.
At Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel an organic vegetable garden project is underway. In line with Inkaterras philosophy to provide guests with local produce prepared by local people, the goal is to serve 100% organic produce at the Machu Picchu property and Inkaterra La Casona.
The company is also pleased to announce that both Inkaterra Machu Picchu and Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica are now working with the Rainforest Alliance programme.
