Art: Rome is art. Villa Borghese our absolute favourite, although we suggest that you look beyond the great art and go to the small private galleries, where you can discover the best of modern art that Rome has to offer.

• LORCAN O'NEILL: off a tiny side street is a beautiful arch that leads to a private courtyard. Glass doors lead to a perfectly modern art space and they work established artists as well as promoting young and upcoming talents
• For very good modern art go to the GALLERIA MUCCIACCIA, which is a rare gem and a proper contemporary art space. The art on display is clever and inspiring and not to be missed if you are a knowledgeable collector or an art lover

Shopping: We advise searching out eclectic small independent hand-made goods, which Italy is famous for.

• DELFINA DELETTREZ: is the youngest designer to be included in the permanent collection of fine jewellery at the Louvre's Musee des Arts Decoratifs. You can find her unique, handmade jewellery in her store in Rome
• BADURA: has some unique bags by designer Aleksandra Bandura. Each bag is crafted out of gems, highest quality skin of crocodile, ostrich buffalo and eel
• DORIA 1905: is a room full of straw hats, all made in Italy. The hats are high quality and an essential item to every traveller's wardrobe
