If the Fall Leaves You Feeling Down Treat Yourself to an Autumn Pick-Me-Up in Brighton Ten Well-Seasoned Reasons to Visit Brighton & Hove

VisitBrighton

If you find summer's end brings you down, take a leaf out of Brighton & Hove's book and pick a reason to celebrate the changing of the seasons:

Brighton Lantern Fayre – 3-5 October sees the welcome return of Brighton Lantern Fayre, a three day arts, music and literary festival at the Level, which focuses on the changing of the seasons and the harvest. Look forward to cinema, literature, arts and crafts, storytelling, theatre, puppetry, great food and drink, a night market, children's entertainment, circus skills workshops, a harvest feast, and some Brighton best live music.

On 4 October, James Taylor and his legendary band play the Brighton Centre. James Taylor's music embodies the art of song writing in its most personal and universal forms. He is a master at describing specific, even autobiographical situations in a way that resonates with people everywhere. For more than forty years Taylor has been a compass for his fans, articulating moments of pain and joy, and reassuring listeners that they are not alone. Tickets from £52.50.

Brighton Comedy Festival is sure to put a smile on your face from 10-25 October, as another stellar line-up of top and up and coming comedians bring some laughter to the chilly autumn evenings. 2014's line-up includes Dave Gorman, Shappi Khorsandi and Jason Byrne.

On 10 October, visit Brighton's Preston Manor to travel back in time toThe 1914 House Autumn. Discover what it was like to live in 1914 at the outbreak of the First World War. Watch practical demonstrations and hear real life stories. Book in advance: Tickets £15, members £12.

The Old Market welcomes The Antlerson 22 October, who are touring Europe this October to promote their much-anticipated new album, Familiars. Kicking off in Brussels on 1 October and playing most major European cities before playing their first UK date here in Brighton, this is one ticket stub to have framed on your wall. Tickets from £13.

From 24 October to 9 November the popular Brighton Early Music Festival embraces the theme of Cities, Musical centres and the journeys between them.  Events include Venetian festivities with La Serenissima and Nine Daies Wonder from The Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments.

From 25 October – 1 March 2015, the Royal Pavilion is hosting a Pavilion Contemporary installation by artist Maisie Broadhead, entitled 'Peepers'. Set in the Music Room, which becomes a decadent dolls house and dwarfed by giant figures peering curiously in through the windows, the installation is inspired by the scrutiny George IV experienced from a society which became obsessed, fascinated, intrigued, even disgusted by his life in the extravagant Royal Pavilion and detached from the reality of the outside world.  The work plays with our voyeuristic fascination with peering in at other people's lives and homes - especially those of celebrities and royals.

Brighton Photo Biennial, the UK's largest international photography festival, returns from 4 October to 2 November. BPB14 takes place online and in public spaces, galleries and pop-up venues across Brighton & Hove and beyond, involving more than 45 photographers and collaborators all bound by a common approach.

Consider some improving toning and groaning at the beach. The newly opened Yellowave Club House on Madeira Drive is offering yoga and pilates with an uninterrupted sea view. The single storey wood clad building is just the place for admiring those pinky, red Autumn sunsets and you give yourself a pinky, red glow of personal satisfaction.

Learn to give your wardrobe a make-over without breaking the bank with Sew Fabulous – join a workshop with Susie and Sue, excellent seamstresses, experienced teachers and workshop leaders. Attend a pre-arranged date or tailor a workshop group of your own.  Fun, innovative and oh so sew-cial. Open all year, hosted in central Brighton venues.

With all the choices available in Brighton & Hove, you will need that extra hour when the clocks go back on 26October to recover some of the time you spent deliberating which pick-me-up was best.
