IceWorks Set to Host Media Day on February 1 to Promote 2012 USA Curling National Championships

Learn to curl with the nation's best as Philadelphia region prepares to welcome the unique Olympic sport for the first time 

 

WHAT: IceWorks Skating Complex and the Philadelphia Sports Congress (PSC), a division of  the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau (PCVB), in partnership with USA Curling, will host a media day on February 1 to promote the 2012 USA Curling National Championships February 11-18 at IceWorks, Aston, PA.

Dean Gemmell, Short Hills, N.J., of Team Heath McCormick, an athlete in the 2012 Nationals, will be on hand to talk about the sport, the event and to give members of the media an opportunity to get out onto the ice and learn the exciting sport of curling.

In addition, Philadelphia-area curlers and 2012 Youth Olympic Games athletes Sarah and Taylor Anderson, Broomall, Pa., will be available to assist with the media day activities.

This is the first time that curling's national championships will take place in the Philadelphia area. The winners of the 2012 Nationals will represent the U.S. at the 2012 World Championships. In addition, this week-long event is the first qualifying event for teams for the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling. The men's and women's winners and runners-up will earn a berth in the Trials.
