Bocuse d'Or chef tournament European finals in Budapest 10-11 May 2016

The world championship for chefs, the internationally recognised Bocuse d'Or tournament will have its European finals in Budapest on 10-11 May. This is an important stage in the lead up to the final of the competition, taking place in Lyon in 2017.The best chefs from over 50 countries, including the UK's Anthony Wright, a senior lecturer who runs the Atrium restaurant in Birmingham, will test their knowledge and skill in this competition that has been running for over 30 years.

Celebrity chef Brian Turner CBE is one of the Bocuse d'Or judges and part of the UK team supporting Mr Wright. Last year the UK team announced their bid to host the European heats of this culinary world cup in 2018. For more information visit http://bocusedorhungary.hu

Budapest Gourmet Festival - 12 - 15 May 2016

Taste the very best in Hungarian gastronomy at the Budapest Gourmet Festival in May. The festival is organised by the people behind the Sziget Festival and showcases the best of fine dining in Budapest. Many of Hungary's restaurants, cafes, artisan cheese makers and food shops, as well as famous and international wine producers offer up their delicacies at the Millenáris Park for four days. 

Restaurants attending this year include Bock Bistro, Buddha-Bar Budapest, Ikon and Michelin starred Costes, plus Budapest's newest Michelin starred restaurant, Costes Downtown. Costes Downtown picks up Hungary's 5th Michelin Star

Costes Downtown in Budapest has just been awarded a Michelin-star in the 2016 guide after being open just six months. The restaurant is the sister restaurant to Costes, which was the first Michelin-starred restaurant in Hungary back in 2010.

Costes Downtown opened in June 2015 and joins Costes, Onyx, Wine kitchen and Tanti (who all retain their star for 2016) as the fifth Michelin-starred restaurant in Budapest. Costes Downtown is located in the elegant Prestige Hotel, accessible via a private street entrance, and offers a bistro-like environment with a relaxed atmosphere, lower prices and bigger capacity than Costes.

The restaurant is overseen by Portuguese executive chef, Miguel Vieira and run by chefs Petra Tischler and Tiago Sabarigo. The open kitchen service serves breakfast, lunch and dinner based around international flavours with a Hungarian influence and is open daily from 6.30am until midnight. The Brody Villa opens 12 May in Budapest

The people behind one of Budapest's best known boutique hotels, the Brody House, as well as the private members art club the Brody Studios, which hosts regular comedy nights and gigs, is opening the Brody Villa in May, which is nestled in the Buda Hills of Budapest.

This restored nineteenth-century villa can accommodate groups of up to 14 people, is family friendly and the ideal setting for weddings, birthdays and other events. The villa consists of 500 square metres of living space, with six bedrooms five bathrooms, three reception rooms and two studios, all styled by the Brody House Group's art and furniture team. There is also a stained-glass winter garden, which is ideal for enjoying and/or hosting sumptuous regal dinners.

The serene 3,000 sqm garden was redesigned by Dutch garden designer Baroness Margaretha Voërst van Lynden and is home to ancient chestnut, pine and yew trees and benefits from an elegant swimming pool. There is also a sauna, Jacuzzi and exercise room and a housekeeper is available who can prepare lunch and supper on request.
